History Of My Collection
I started my collection of Match Box - 'Models of Yesteryear' by Lesney in 1983. It was a small collection of 90 models that i bought from a deceased estate. Most of the models were Y-12 Ford Model T vans, not particulary inspiring but never the less a start.
My collection grew over the years with purchases at toy fairs, car boot sales and most notably when I purchased a number of rare models from Perigrine Models of Plymouth, who were selling off 'The Ray Bush Collection'.
Ray Bush was the inovator and publisher of the fisrt Matchbox magazine - 'UK Matchbox' in March 1977. The MICA Magazine followed under new publishers.
Some of the most notible 'Models of Yearyear' that I purchased from the 'Ray Bush Collection' were:
Y1-2 1911 Model 'T' Ford - Colour Trial of cream body, red chassis & seats, orange roof and radiator (very rare).
Y-15-2 130 Packard Victoria - 'Pre-Production Model'. Dark green body, Bonnet lifts to reveal 'engine' ! ?(unique)
Y4-4 1930 Duesenberg Model 'J' Town Car - Pre-production colour trial'. White body and metallic blue chassis. Yellow hood and seats.
...cont.
My Match Box 'Models Of Yesteryear' collection now numbers over 600 models. I mainly collect first series now and only mint and boxed models.
My collection is on display and still gives me great pleasure looking and talking about the models, even after 25 plus years of collecting.
